In the Dragon ball: Adventure special, the author of Dragon ball manga explains the seven balls. There were eight balls in Hakken-Den, which is a famous Edo-era Japanese novel, so the author decided to keep the no. of dragon balls to seven in this manga.

Dragon balls are intended to be extraordinary magic and power. Dragon balls are the part of Dragon ball series. These are large and crystalline spheres with five-pointed stars, that may range from one to seven. The colors and size may vary as per the appearance ( rigid or appearance). Individually these balls don’t have any power but once they are united they became capable to call forth their associated Eternal Dragon who can fulfill your wishes.

How many dragon balls are there?

Let’s start reading out all seven balls of dragon ball:-

    1. Earth Dragon Balls

The diameter of this ball is about 7.5 cm or 3 in. These balls summon a dragon named Shenron. Kami created them and later recreated them Dende. The legitimate wishes of this include eternal youth, and immortality, to bring back a scorched forest or even an annihilated planet.

But the most common and popular wish is to bring a dead person back to its life with various limitations and rules.

    2. Minus Energy and the Shadow Dragons

Old Kai explained in Dragon Ball Z, that whenever a wish is granted, the same amount of negative energy is created alongside the benefits of the granted wish. This ball is used to absorb its dark energy.

The stored energy in dragon balls only dispersed after 100 years but only a particular amount. After using this dragon ball, they are scattered across the planet.

    3. Dark Dragon Balls

These balls are a set of black-starred and dark red Dragon Balls formed by XenoDende. These balls are trickier to gather than other dragon balls because they are scattered throughout time and space. One wish from Dark dragon balls can create enough negative energy that can create a set of Shadow dragons similar to demonic energy.

They also have a unique ability to merge with evil things so that one can increase their power.

    4. Namekian Dragon Balls

Namekian Dragon Balls are approximately similar to basketball-sized Dragon Balls of planet  Namek. This can be only used once in a Namekian year, approximately 130 earth days. However, it is only capable to complete only one individual as per their wish. But the Eternal Dragon of Earth can wish many people back to life an entire population of a planet with a single wish. The only limitation of this ball is that the wish should be spoken in the Namekian language. Thus, Z fighters use Dende to translate their wishes to Porunga.

One of the most prominent benefits of Namekian balls is that they can revive one person as many times as they wish.

    5. Black Star Dragon Balls

    Black Star Dragon Balls

The concept of Black star Dragon Balls was introduced in Dragon Ball GT. This set of balls was created by the Nameless Namekian before he was separated into Kami and King Piccolo. This Namek was not so pure and powerful because they hadn’t dispelled his evil half. Black Star Dragon balls have two big downsides, one is when the ultimate Shenron grants a wish, Black Dragon Balls scattered across the galaxy. And second is, the planet on which the ultimate Shenron grants the wish, will be destroyed in one year.

    6. Super Dragon Balls

These are the original sets of balls that are created by the Dragon God, Zalama. Namekians found these balls and shaved their pieces off to make their own. Super dragon balls don’t have any limitations and grant wishes according to the user’s desires. These balls are the size of the planet.

    7. Cereal Dragon balls

On a cereal planet, when Namekians arrived there and created Dragon balls. They are only smaller in size like a ping pong ball. Right now, these balls are tied to Monaito, who is the last Namekian on Cereal and he also had one in his collection.

Besides these balls, there are some other Dragon balls such as Special Dragon Balls which were given to prisoners of the Prison Planet by Fu, and Omnificence Crystal which was a prototype of Dragon balls to test amazing powers.
