Luffy is a prevalent character in the One Piece series. He is simpler than other characters in this anime, who have noticeable features on their faces. For example, Naruto has blond hair and carries an orange jacket, Yugi has wild and colorful hair, Goku has spiky hair and so on but on the other hand, Luffy has the very simple appearance of a normal boy who has simple black eyes.
Body appearance of Luffy was normal but Luffy carries two notable scars on his body, one was just below his right eye and a large one was on his chest. Let’s read out the story behind the story of his scars.
How did Luffy get the scar on his face?
The scar which was below Luffy’s right eye is one year old before the start of the series. Luffy get this scar when he was a child. Garp abandoned him in the hands of either Mayor of Foosha Village or the Mountain Bandit Leader Dadan who was also his grandfather.
While living in Foosha village, Shanks and his crew stopped Luffy on that island so that he can refill supplies. He also enjoyed the village and gained their reputation because of his fun-loving character.
Luffy was impressed with the happy nature of Shank and how they sing and dance while drunk and good their relationship was. By seeing this, Luffy was inspired to become a pirate and avoid Garp’s goal which was to make him a strong marine.
After this Luffy became friends with Shank and his crew and became a part of that group. However, Luffy was annoyed by the continuous rejection of Shank as Luffy was too young for the crew. To prove himself, Luffy started showing his stunts and he stabbed himself near the eye with a dagger.
The wound was so profound for the dedicated and young skin of Luffy. But Garp had already trained him to survive in such situations.
How did Luffy get his Scar on his Chest?
The scar mark on Luffy’s chest was a much more painful experience than the previous scar. Luffy got this scar in the Marineford war, in which he also lost his brother, Ace.
In the middle of a war, before getting the scar, Luffy was traumatized due to the death of his brother in front of him. The trauma of his brother’s death was enough to paralyze him and his mouth was open due to crying. There was one more reason for his paralysis. Luffy forced his body when he asked for another dose of Ivankov’s adrenaline which was harmful for him as an abused amount of this drug can decrease his lifespan.
Akainu decided to wipe out Ace and Luffy because he considered him a criminal due to their parental history.
Luckily, Luffy was gathered by his friends and the remnants of Whitebeard’s crew. At first, Jimbe blocked Akainu and held Luffy, and took him away from the batt;e ground. But Akainu punched Jimbe forcefully with a magma-enhanced punch. The punch was so powerful that it burst out of Jimbe and hit Luffy’s chest, causing severe damage and a deep scar on his chest. That punch almost killed Luffy.
All the main characters of One Piece are extremely resilient against the punches and cuts that can cause severe damage to the skins. The scar on Luffy’s chest was in an X shape. Because the eruption of the punch leads to an X-shaped scar which has a center and then it goes in all four diagonal directions while getting thinner at the ends.
